At Next Island (mostly)

Log Entry for June the 22nd 2014

It really has been a while since I have been to Next Island, it did not take long before I had the old feeling of liking it but not knowing what to do! I decide to fly about a bit and figure out where various mobs were, how tough they were and what they dropped so on Monday I tried Buccaneer Skeletons, Death Drakes, Chimera and Pirate Skeletons. The Skeletons are quite odd, for some reason they all kept their hats! I can understand that they no longer need to wear clothes, after all they do not need to keep warm and have no privates to cover, so why keep the hats? I can only think that they are ashamed of their new found baldness, pirates and buccaneers in life are portrayed as having lots of hair, the loss of which is obviously a cause for shame, so great a shame that they have to keep their hats. I did get a global from a pirate skeleton which failed to register on entropialife, as did 3 of the 5 I got during the week. I ended the day running some of the missions with Wolta, I could probably do some of them again, they have changed since I ran them. I do remember finding them quite good fun.

On Tuesday I just could not wait any longer, the Karma Killer had reached tier 4.9 last week and was ready for an upgrade to tier 5, I jumped into my quad, headed into the big black and set a course for Calypso, I made my approach z+ on Crystal Palace so as to avoid any entanglements and reached Calypso without issue, surface to surface the journey was a little over an hour. Everything I needed was on auction and none of had buy-outs that were much over the daily MU so I acquired what was needed and did the deed. I also got some tier V enhancers and stocked up some of the others that were running low. I’m currently using all damage enhancers but am thinking of testing some others, that can wait however.

I decided to try the newly upgraded Karma Killer and headed to Saba Camp and then east to play with the Rextelum, the pistol is more effective but the Rextelum took advantage of my generosity and I came away with very little by way of a return. On the upside I passed the half way mark of the Supreme Rextelum Slayer challenge.

Exiv was on-line, he had been wanting to join us for a week or so, so I offered him a ride back to NI, which he accepted, however after discussion it seems he would prefer to go to Arkadia where we could all meet at the weekend, it was late, too late for me to make it to NI and still get to bed at a reasonable time so we set course for Arkadia, Exiv went AFK and I chatted with a few people in Space Chat. About 2 AU out from Arkadia, Exiv logged out (it later transpired that he crashed), I changed course for the Space Station. A little latter he logged back in and after reviving found himself on Zeus. I had relayed this on Space Chat and very kindly Sally Sal Bridges offered to pick him up and take him to Arkadia, she was already en route and about 2 minutes short of Zeus. With that sorted I FL’d Sally found a quite corner below decks at Arkadia Space Station and curled up to sleep.

Wednesday, yes, it’s only Wednesday! Fortunately it was a relatively quite day. I had little time so I headed to the Arkadian Surface where I set to against some Oratan Miners, these were much more generous that the miserly Rextelum of yesterday, with a global and a near global. While I was hunting I had a chat with Sally Sal Bridges who had kindly accepted my Friend request of yesterday, it seem both she and Exiv had done quite well the previous night on Arkadia, with her getting a decent global and Exiv a small HoF. Seems we live rather close to each other too, well close in EU terms, probably less than 200 English miles. During the hunt I got 1/3 of the way through level 53 Laser Pistoleer (Hit), crawling along.

Thursday, time to return to Next island, I set off into the big black and headed straight for Next Island, I was about 30 seconds out of the safe zone when I realised I had not checked my stackables, rectifying this I discovered I was carrying all the loot from yesterday’s Oratan miner hunt and absolutely no ammo, genius! I turned around and headed back to Arkadia to put the stackables in storage and to get some ammo before continuing.

Approaching Next Island I decided to try some Cosmic Horrors and used the ammo I was carrying on them before I headed to the surface. With the loot in storage I got some more ammo and went fishing for some Island Sharks, managing a small global and very little else.

Friday, I entertained myself hunting Vulcan Drakes, I did not really have suitable armour so this was harder and more wasteful than it should have been but I quite enjoyed it. I was killed a few times when they ganged up on me but other than that I managed OK.

Later I accidentally began a hunt with blades (finding I needed to defend myself but not having any ammo on me} this hunt continued into Saturday as I was called away to complete a warp pick-up.

Saturday, The hunt with blades continued against various creatures and resulted in almost a 100% return, which was rather pleasing. I was asked for some assistance by a newish arrival one Feyn An Talitha which I gladly gave and had quite a long chat with her and assisted her with gaining  Morion Teleport.

Later I found I was unprepared for Space Skilling Saturday, having neither enough Welding Wire or healthy enough Rk-5 and RK-20 so had to make a quick trip to Arkadia. After which Space Skilling Saturday went quite well.

Sunday, Straight to Ancient Greece, Wolta and Nocturaline were already there. I found my Settlers garb no longer worked there so I was forced to run around in my underpants, it was that or wear a dress. I’m sure I had acquired some Hoplite Armour on a previous visit but was unable to locate it so I shall need to get some more, the auction had 6 parts but it was overpriced so I managed without it. Every item on the nearly 2 pages of auction had been placed by just one person, is there a market here?

I decided to try the Brontes Cyclops, quite tricky without armour but Archon’s Sword was very effective, healing was next to impossible so I only did it after I revived and was assisted in this by Nocturaline briefly. To my amazement I managed a small global, my first in Ancient Greece, and the hunt returned the first positive of the week . Later I hunted some Achelous in order to complete the Arachne’s Dilemma mission, this hunt also produced a positive. I find myself wondering if this is an Ancient Greece or a melee weapon phenomenon. I think there is only one way to find out but it will have to wait until next week.

My total return for this week was 71.75%, it was only this good due to the events in Ancient Greece.

Next Island (Eventually)

Log Entry for June the 15th 2014

Monday and I continued with a hunt against various Oratan, this did not go well, the return was very poor. I did get Level 29 in both One Handed and Two Handed Clubber at the same time, these have always been at the same time, either I have never used a club or this happens for everyone.

Tuesday – Thursday, I concentrated on Oratan Miners, this gave a much better result but it was still poor, Skills gained were Level 32 Brawler (Dmg) & Level 22 Gunner (Dmg). On the Tuesday I had a nice long chat with Alaina Bonnie Scotia, nice to get to know her a little. There was a time when I made a point of trying to catch up with everyone on my FL but I have let this lapse, maybe I should make a bit of an effort.

Friday, Oratan Miners again, poor result again. No surprise there.

Saturday, A couple of hunts participating in the Oratan Slasher Thug Event for New Starter Packs The first one returning over 90% and the second over 110%, this was by far the best result of the week. I should probably have stayed for the rest of the weekend but had other plans already deferred from last week. During this the Karma Killer reached tier 4.9, excited to upgrade it but could not find the required commodities, looks like a trip to Calypso is required, however I was heading the other way. After Space Skilling Saturday  it was off to Next Island with Wolta and Nocturaline.

Sunday, I awoke on the ship and headed to the surface of Next Island, it has been quite a while since I have been there so was quite excited, it was just as I remembered it, still a lovely place but with too many monkeys. I had 3 hunts covering Storm Drakes, Snow Drakes, Boars, Portal Guardians, Island Sharks and Pirate Skeletons. Returns were between 55 and 70%, actually not bad by comparison and to my knowledge I got my first Next Island global ( I could be wrong), then I got my second, the first was against the sharks, the second the skeletons although for some reason that one did not register on entropialife.

Exiv has made a return this week we are intending to get the soc. together for a few team hunts.

That’s my week, sorry to go on about the loot returns so much it’s just that they have been so shit for so long that I’ve been considering hanging up my gun and concentrating on the transport business. The overall return for the week was 66.54% I hope Next Island is more generous but I’m not optimistic.

A few missions

Log Entry for February 9th 2014

The first HoF in a very long while started the week, Wolta and myself were hunting rextelum in team when the fanfare went off after we looted a soldier, it’s something I would like to hear far more often, possibly things are improving!

Also team hunted with Exiv scoring a nice feffox global, this got me into hunting feffox, I had not had much luck with them in the past, I think I had only tried once when they were out of the nests though. I did a few feffox solo runs until I had completed the first challenge and gained 1.88PED in powerfist. These proved to be not to bad a bet at the moment with several globals being scored and even seeing a little profit at one point, it did not last long.

I also did a few drone hunts at Jason Centre, a bit of a blast from the past, the losses were quite low and I could use the Karma Killer with no enhancers and no amp so the costs were also low. I completed the 3K mission and took the 1.94PED in handgun.

After Space Skilling Saturday 4 I was on Arkadia were I set about trying to complete the 400 Scoria mission, I believe the reward is a decent amount of handgun so well worth completing even if the loot is dire, I have about 30 more of the creatures to plough through before I get that though.

I also spent some time working towards completing the 1200 (I think that’s the number) halix mission. Very dull but very cheap, using the Arkadian TT laser pistol.

Wolta and I finished the week running a Key 7, this was fun and it seemed a little tougher than I remember, certainly I seem to have used more ammo however maybe my previous experience was in a team of 3 as opposed to 2.

Just 6 skill gains this week an even split of hit and damage, nice to get them but things are slowing down there already.

The Karma Killer is still at tier 3.8, bugger!

Calypso welcomes me back

Log Entry for August 11th 2013

My first hunt back on the home world was on the Monday evening and resulted in a nice HoF, either Calypso or the Rextelum had missed me and had been saving their PED.¬† Either way I was quite happy about it. Needless to say the loot soon trailed off after that but it was nice while it lasted. I tried the Viceroy against some small Leviathan, it seems to offer more protection than the ghost but is still not as effective as I would like, I think the Leviathan got a bit of an increase in how much damage they can do at some point as I remember a time when I did not have to heal as much. I have reached the 9k of 30k mark on the Rextelum challenge and the Karma Killer has still not reached tier 2.9 although it does seem to be eating enhancers, I’m beginning to think something is going on.

Tuesday saw Nocturaline and I retrieving Exiv from Arkadia as detailed in the Pathfinder XXXI log.

Speaking of Nocturaline, she has created several pictures in a Gothic style and has a couple for sale hanging in Wolta’s shop, at the end of the week I purchased one for my apartment and have hung it above my desk, it should provide a worthwhile distraction for anyone sitting opposite me.

I spent sometime in the new instance, something deep I think it’s called, I really should make more effort to remember things. The Marcimex gave me a small offering as I pursued that iron challenge, I had to log out while still in the Marcimex’s chamber and when I reconnected the next day found myself back at the starting position which was somewhat annoying, it became rapidly more annoying when the Thorifoid Pyromancer kept summoning me as I tried to cross the bridge and eventually killed me returning me once again to the starting position, this happened 5 or 6 times before I got fed up with it and decided to just hunt some Thorifoid instead. I do not understand what was happening there I have passed him several times in the past and not been pulled back to his location.

I decided I would test the Viceroy armour in the Pit at Chugs, it did quite well, I was killed during the 4th wave but that was due to me being distracted, I’m sure in normal circumstances it would be adequate at that level, when it came to the Kirakiba it was another matter, I spent far too much time healing and was eventually killed before I returned to finish the mob off. For Soc. challenges I will need to stick with the Ursa.

The 7th anniversary of my arrival came and went. I asked most of those in my F.L. to join me in a celebratory hunt, most did not answer, some declined and Wolta, Nocturaline and M0niqa accepted. We began at Nea’s shooting Ambulimax but soon found they had very shallow pockets so moved on to Atrox around and North of Nate Valley, these also were somewhat lacking when it came to coughing up the goods. So we decided to call it a night, clearly the mobs were not happy about me being there for 7 years, maybe they will be more generous in another 7.
