Happy Birthday Arkadia

Log Entry for June the 1st 2014

The week began on a Monday (as indeed it usually does for me). There were various mobs attacking at Quarry and Arkadia Officials were present, someone said something about a rift. After a while the mobs started to spawn some distance from Quarry, along the path, they came with what seemed like long gaps between the defeat of one and the emergence of another. One of the Officials (I do not remember which), was being attacked by something, he ran from it shouting for help, I could not help thinking “NOOB”, anyone who’s been here any length of time knows you stay still so that others can both heal you and attack the mob.

I got bored and wandered off to do some IFN Defence Bots, I’m not sure what type of damage(s) they do but it’s different to drones as my Musca armour deteriorated slightly.

On return to Quarry sometime later there was some kind of quiz taking place, again it seemed an unnecessarily long time, this time between questions. I got bored again and logged.

I have been experiencing some issues with chat of late, it seems to freeze and the only way to unfreeze it is a relog.

Tuesday followed Monday (no real surprises there). I took on the IFN Defence Bots again, this time the higher level ones. These stay at a range and attack with some kind of gun, it’s very loud and the reload time is quite long. The range means I get an increase in accuracy due to the sights on the Karma Killer and the long reload time means I can do these without armour as when they hit I have time to heal, sure I died a few times but my technique improved. I continued with these into Wednesday (it following Tuesday) at which point I had completed the first IFN Killpoint challenge for these critters.

Thursday and I changed mob, this time it was some low level Teladon with the A105 fitted to the Karma Killer, this hunt returned a small profit after a rather nice global (218PED), in addition I gained Lvl 32 Ranged Gauss (Dmg) and the Karma Killer reached tier 4.8, looks like it’s time to begin the long haul to tier 4.9, oh well.

Friday and it was the turn of various types of Oratan to be slaughtered mindlessly and fail to pay their way, consequently on Saturday I revisited the Teladon who took back all they gave on Thursday and then some. I did gain Lvl 35 Ranged BLP (Dmg). Also on Saturday I noticed that Vinge had broken the back of her discipleship by passing the 50% mark so well done to her for sticking it out. Space Skilling Saturday went quite well with a few level gains. I also purchased and fully repaired an Arkadian Key 7.

Sunday and it was time to use that key, Wolta and I plunged into the depths at Aakas for about 90 minutes of intense gun play, needless to say we spent more than we HoF’d (never been the other way around) but as always a lot of fun and my hands ached afterwards, need to do something about the recoil on that Karma Killer. Later that day I over paid for a BP on auction, clearly I had drunk way too much to numb the pain in my hands creating a small pain in my wallet.

Returns for the week were 80.51%, a big improvement, that’s a value I can live with. The amount lost was very close to the spend on repair which if I remember correctly is how things are supposed to be.

Trying something stupid

Log Entry for May 29th 2013

Something stupid, well I’m not the smartest cookie up the flagpole in the first place so this should be fairly daft.

I decided to try the old way, the unlimited way, the non SIB way! I went and bought myself a Karma Killer. I’m planning on sticking with the unlimited Ghost and will use up the relics of my Jaguar and first Ursa set, disposing of parts as they expire. My second Ursa set will remain in storage for a while, while I tread the path of the ancient.

Last night I tried my new/old approach against the rextellum, I found the weapon to have a significant increase in fire rate, I seemed to be killing them in slightly fewer shots, I did notice an increase in misses and in skills and at the end the size of loss was not unusually high. Look out for me in my Christmas tree armour, I wonder if I could put a star on the top!

Space, Space and more Space

Log Entry 02 March 2013

Yes, this week I have mostly been in space, shuttling about in the vicinity of Calypso. I did get to meet my latest Soc. member Little Lizzy Drow a Rocktropian who having done a few of the basic missions available decided that she wanted a mentor and that she wanted to do all of her discipleship in Space! Well that’s quite a challenge and one I was interested in assisting with so Lizzy became my 3rd current disciple. Which is why I have been in space so much this week. Lizzy is using the 0.0 feature to complete her discipleship, after about a week she has exceeded 40% and has completed the 3 necessary achievements.

We did the team hunt with mentor first, this was done on the Pathfinder in the Calypso training area, we both had a go at the pilot and gunner positions and of course the loot was poor. Next it was crafting, this was done on Crystal Palace making good old Basic Filters using my old BP of course the return was poor however at least there is a use for Basic Filters now so the return may not be too bad. Lastly it was mining and of course this was achieved on FOMA where Lizzy made out like a bandit, doubling her money in the main arena.

Things went so well mining for Lizzie that I went and had a go at mining myself, that was a big mistake, after dropping 50PED of bombs I had just over 8PED of oil and that was from just one find, I decided not to continue at that particular time.

The mining went so well for Lizzy that she has been back to FOMA since and this time more than doubled her money in the main arena. She has also tried some solo snablesnot hunts but found it a little on the dull side!

I have been shuttling backwards and forwards to the training grounds to initiate the 0.0 feature, unfortunately there are not enough people to have the ship permanently manned so initiating this was my first task each day.

We have been to the planet’s surface once, Lizzy was hoping to benefit from the re-model your avatar opportunity but it did not work when she re-logged.

From what we have seen the repair skilling offers quite a quick way to work through your discipleship however it has been slowing down. Lizzy is keeping a record of how much welding wire and how many RK-5 devices she has used, I am curious to know just what it takes.

The 4th current disciple. It has been a busy week and at one point I received the “knock, knock” someone wants to be your disciple signal. I was very busy at the time and I do like to chat with people before accepting them as a disciple so I ignored the request, I ignored the request 5 times before getting a bit fed up, at which point I accepted it on the 6th attempt. It turns out the chap was in the Arkadia arrivals area and was having some issues downloading Arkadia, I chatted with him that evening and the following evening (Arkadia had still not downloaded), on the third evening it had and he was free to wander the planet. he had already started the new arrivals mission and we chatted for a while.

At some point I got a message from him telling me to come to Arkadia because he was bored. I explained I was a bit busy and that I was not sure when I would next be on Arkadia, very soon after that he kicked me. We did talk about it afterwards and I agreed it was for the best as he is on Arkadia he would be better off with a mentor who is there also. I almost forgot at some point before the kicking he did join the Soc. I am not sure if he is still a member, I should check that however I have not seen him on line since. A bit sad really.

P.S. I just logged in and checked, he left the Soc. too but is still on my FL. I also updated my mentor information in the hope that this kind of misunderstanding will not reoccur.

The Oldest Noob?

The Oldest Noob?

Six or so years ago when I first set foot on Calypso I was not alone, bald but not alone. I was joined within a day or so by a friend of mine from the home world, know by the name of Clyde Budski Barretta. Clyde did not take to the new home as I did and at one point, not very long after arrival gave away all his worldly items and logged out into that other ethereal state where we all go from time to time. He has been back on occasion to sit upon his favourite hill just south of Port Atlantis, from where he would dispense nuggets of wisdom he had gathered from the logged off state of being and be abused by any one with any degree of sanity.

It seems he is back but his hill is not, it was destroyed when the robot ship hit Calypso, destroying Hadeshienm. So now is he the oldest noob? His only article of clothing his first wave colonist beret! Well he has been doing some noob missions, has joined my Soc. and become my disciple, if he learnt anything (improbable) while he was in the other state he is keeping quiet about it.

I assisted as he completed the missions at Camp Icarus and he has managed a stunning 0.2% of the discipleship doing this. As he was running around in his underpants I created some Musca armour, it works very well with the beret. I had to do something, I had given him a lift in the sleipnir a few days before and having a chap’s underpants that close to your head is a distinctly uncomfortable feeling. I suspect I will have to create some rules as to attire on the Pathfinder.
